Adventures in a cast I can't walk in - Part IV

New York City

Let me begin by saying that New York City sidewalk ramps are grotesquely inadequate. I went into Manhattan to see West Side Story. Both me and my mom have foot injuries, but we bought these tickets awhile ago so we had to go. The trains are very wheelchair accessible, except for Wantagh station that didn't have an elevator to the platform, so me and my mom had to go to Merrick station. The conductors came to put down a ramp between the train and platform (9 and three quarters?! haha). Every other car also has an little area for wheelchairs, incase you were ever wondering. Penn Station is also pretty wheelchair accessible, with elevators from the tracks to the main area, and from there to the street level. The streets are another story. The curb cuts are horrible in most places (too big of a gap from the curb cut to the street), making it incredibly unsafe. If I did not have my mom there pushing me, I definitely would have either been ran over by a vehicle or knocked over by people. Oh the people of New York. I guess no one has ever seen anyone in a wheelchair or a cast in their entire lives before, because everyone stared at me like I was a god damned car accident on the parkway or something.

West Side Story was quite good, but I probably wouldn't go to see it again (anyway, next on the list is "Hair"). The theatre did have an elevator, however, our seats were a few rows down. I had to hop down the stairs to get to my seat. It was really, very scary because the stairs were crazy steep. It was probably the most physically uncomfortable 2 1/2 hours of my life.

Me and my mom also went to the Discovery channel museum/exhitbition place, where they had "Titanic: The Artifacts" and "Lucy's Legacy: Treasures From Ethipopia." My mom thought she bought tickets for both, however, it was just for Titanic. Oh wow, was it amazing. I've been obsessed with Titanic ever since I saw the movie (I was 5 years old), so I loved it. They had so many things recovered and even remade a first class hallway and the stairway with the clock. I almost cried when I was walking (wheeling) through the hallway, I'm not even sure why.
