I don't review every show I go to on here, as I didn't with the last EOTC show I went to in April because I was extremely disappointed with it, however, I thought their last one I would ever see needed a post.
I went to Saturday's show - the one that was supposed to be their last show but then they added an extra one the day after because this one sold out. This pissed me off to no end. The exact minute the tickets went on sale I bought them. I don't think it's fair that the people who fucking tried for these tickets aren't rewarded with what they bought - the last show ever. Anyway...
At this particular show they were selling 15 demos from when they first changed their name from Writ In Water to Envy On The Coast. I fucking wanted one. I had to beg Marina to come with me ridiculously early to sit outside the venue. The earliest I asked from her was to take the 9:51 train (I would have liked to have left at 7). We missed that train and took the 10:20. Of course with my luck there was a delay with our train at Jamaica. We arrived at Irving Plaza around 11:30. There were only 12 people in front of us. As the day went on some assholes arrived and then there were over 20 people in front of us. WHAT THE FUCK. I am not even going to get into this shit.
7pm, I entered the venue, ran up the stairs, ran to the merch table, was the 4th person there, "Sorry guys we don't have the demos yet. 20 minutes." Pushing and shoving ensued. After about 9 were sold the guy said that there was only 1 left, so it pretty much became an auction. One guy offered $50, handed him a wad of cash and said, "Take what you want." I stuck around though because I counted how many he sold and knew the little bitch was lying to get people to leave. I GOT MINE. I am so fucking happy. If anyone wants me to send it to them email me your aim and I will send the files!
Neighbors was an excellent, excellent opener. Talented musicians, variety in sound. It was love as I was jamming sitting in the back corner. Click this shit.
AND I FINALLY SAW THE SLEEPING! I have legitimately missed 10 of their shows in the 4 years that I have been listening to them and this was my night of glory! They played 'If Your Heart Was Broken You Would Be Dead,' which I went crazy for, just let loose and got into it. I hear they play it every single set ever, and I think that is a good decision. They also played some new stuff off of The Big Deep. I wasn't a fan of What It Takes, but this new album sounds solid. September 28th, check it out.
Dear EOTC, Great opening song choice. 'Artist & Repertoire' kicked off their epic last set. Of course I had already started crying. I was too close up front and the crowd was squashing my intestines together. I moved near the pit for the rest of the set, because 1. there is open space, therefore it is cooler 2. I hate being near annoying girls at shows and there are little to none by the pit. The band played the entire set list I submitted on their facebook, plus 2 more. I was hysterically crying during 'Tell Them That She's Not Scared,' 'Lapse,' and 'The Gift Of Paralysis' (which they closed the show with not including the encore). After TGOP the house music came on and the lights came up, so I started walking away, but then they came back out! And the last song I will ever hear them play live was my favourite of theirs, 'Suckerpunch.' I fucking went wild. Crowd surfing, moshing, rocking out, etc.
After the show ended for real I went to sit in the back corner where I found a full bottle of water (OH HOLY FUCK YES). I sat down and drank up, because for the entire set I was having a bit of an asthma attack, and of course I ignored it which made it worse. I felt fucking ripped out of my mind for the whole set because of how bad my breathing was. It was crazy. And walking 20 blocks, and running through Penn Station to the track just made it so much better.
TWO DAYS LATER AND I AM STILL RECOVERING, THAT IS HOW GOOD IT WAS.
